Virtual Reality is no longer in its nascent stages. It has been around for awhile now and almost every technology behemoth or startup has produced various manifestations of how it would fit in your life. Google is one of these and has been attempting to make VR more accessible and approachable for every user out there. To do so, the company, back in June, introduced a new format called VR180 and today, it has launched two VR180 cameras in collaboration with Yi and Lenovo.

Above all, the new VR180 are supposed to as straightforward as point-and-shoot cameras. They even look like them, albeit with two sensors on the front instead of one. You’ll also notice that, unlike other similar hardware, these cameras are not spherical in shape. That’s mainly because Google’s approach puts the onus on what’s in front of you instead of stitching everything’s that around in a single frame. This will essentially also eliminate the issue of the photographer itself ending up in the shot.

Both of these lenses individually capture 180-degree panoramic footage, together producing high-definition three-dimensional photos and videos. Once clicked, you can view these files in either a VR headset like Google’s own Daydream View or the Google Photos app in 2D. You can even stream them directly to YouTube with a click of a button.

Lenovo’s Mirage Camera features two 13 megapixel fisheye lenses, while the YI Horizon captures 3D videos and pictures in 5.7K resolution at 30 frames per second. The former is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 626 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal memory which can be expanded via a MicroSD card and a 2200mAh battery which promises two hours of general usage. Both of them also sport a screen for previewing and framing the shots.

Lenovo’s and YI’s Vr180 cameras are expected to be available for purchase sometime this Spring at a price less than $300. In addition to that, LG will be introducing its own Vr180 product later this year.
